Appliance Repair Technician Checklist

A start-to-finish service visit checklist for appliance repair technicians, covering pre-visit prep, on-site diagnosis, repair, invoicing, and follow-up.

Check you have the right client name, address, phone number and appliance(s) for the call

Jot down how the client themselves described the fault

Re-read the booked time slot and any special instructions

Pack tools, parts and safety gear to suit the appliance type and the fault reported

Turn up in a clean company uniform with your ID badge on

Introduce yourself to the client warmly, with a smile

Scan the work area for hazards such as wet floors or trip risks and guard against them

Talk the client through the inspection as you go

Go over the appliance for the reported fault and anything else visibly wrong

Track the fault back to its root cause using your instruments and experience

Describe what you diagnosed in plain language, with no technical jargon

Get the client to say yes before work starts, above all when extra cost is involved

Carry out the repair to the manufacturer’s guidelines, working quickly with quality parts

Put the appliance through every mode and note how it runs

Take the client through what you did, what you found and how the cost breaks down

Where it fits, suggest upkeep or upgrades that match what the client needs

Invite questions and settle any worry the client raises

Hand the client a feedback form

Write up a service report listing the repairs, the parts fitted and, with the client’s consent, damage that was already there

With the client’s permission, photograph the appliance sharply before, during and after the work for the record

Issue an itemized, easy-to-read invoice offering several ways to pay

Book a return visit where a warranty check or further repair is needed

Ask the client out loud whether they are happy with the service

Say thanks for the work and leave them with after-care advice

Leave the work area swept and free of debris

Gather up every tool and part you brought

Take the completed feedback form back from the client

Run back down this checklist and note anything that was skipped

Write up anything that went wrong on the visit and pass it to the supervisor for training and the record
