Electrical Panel Upgrade Checklist
A panel replacement or service upgrade from the site visit to the handover: the existing service, the new loads, the permit and utility booking, the shutdown, the terminations, the restart and the circuit directory the Client keeps.
32 of 32 items on the sheet
Tick items off as you go, hide a section or a single line, write a note or add a photo on any row, then save it. Nothing you type, tick or attach here is saved or sent anywhere: a note and a photo print on the sheet and are gone when you reload.
The button opens your print dialog: choose Save as PDF as the destination (or print it straight to paper). The sheet carries only the items you kept.
Sheet details
Optional. Whatever you type prints across the top of the sheet; leave one blank and it prints as an empty line to fill in on site.
Before the Day Is Booked 8/8
Photograph the label before anything is touched. It is the record of what was there, and it answers the later question of why the panel was changed.
A new EV charger, heat pump, range or hot tub is usually the reason for the upgrade. Write down the nameplate figures, not just the appliance name, because they feed the load calculation.
Utility lead times are often the longest part of the schedule. Book the disconnect before the shutdown day is promised to the Client.
Shutdown and Removal 6/6
Test the tester, test the conductors, then test the tester again. That live-dead-live sequence is what tells you a dead reading is real and not a failed tester.
The handwriting in an old panel is often wrong. Tag the conductor itself so the new directory is built from what each wire actually feeds.
Installing the New Panel 8/8
Write the torque setting used on the job record. A loose service lug is a common cause of heat damage inside a panel.
Neutrals and grounds are bonded together only at the service disconnect. In a subpanel they stay on separate bars, with the bonding screw or strap left out.
After Power Is Restored 5/5
Handing Over 5/5
“Kitchen counter, left of sink” is a directory entry. “Kitchen” is a guess. The Client reads it with a flashlight during an outage.
Notes
Optional. Anything you write here prints at the foot of the sheet, after the last section: one place for whatever does not belong to a single line.

This checklist is a working document, not a code inspection or a substitute for a licensed professional. Confirm the current code, permit and licensing requirements for your own jurisdiction before you sign anything off.
What the Electrical Panel Upgrade Checklist Covers
32 checks across 5 sections: Before the Day Is Booked, Shutdown and Removal, Installing the New Panel, After Power Is Restored, Handing Over. Work through it on a phone on site, or export the PDF and carry the paper. Anything you tick prints ticked, a note you write on a line prints under it, and a section you do not need can be hidden before you export.
It is free, there is no account, and nothing you enter is kept. Use it as a starting checklist, not a standard. It is written for general Electrical work, so add the checks your own standards and your local code require before you take it to a job.
